Round Challah:
It’s time for the challah
And as you all know
It’s our favorite braid
From hundreds of years ago
But hey, what’s this I see?
It’s a ROUND challa right in front of me!
Oh yes, of course it is true
On Rosh Hashana there is ROUND bread
For me and you
Round goes the cycle of life
Round goes the cycle of good
When we feel a bit down or at the lower end
It reminds us that there is lots of good waiting for us,
Around the bend!
On the second night of the holiday
Apple in honey we do not eat
But Round challah dipped in honey
Can become your second favorite treat!

Head of Fish:
The head of the fish
May not be a pleasant sight
When we are enjoying
Some delicious culinary bite
However its presence is needed
Its message rings true
Like a fish, G-d’s eyes NEVER close
He is always watching me and you!
There is another reason
The head we do see
We ask G-d to let us please come out 'ahead'
and not, as you can see, at the 'tail' end.
Shana Tova!
Apple in Honey
We dip our apples in the honey
We say a blessing loud and clear
We keep in mind to ask God
For a happy, healthy and SWEET New Year!
An apple a day keeps the doctor away
Yes that may be true
But how to keep the apple fresh
Is a mystery with no clue
Honey on the other hand
Does not spoil or get rotten
So these two foods were especially chosen
To go hand in hand, we want them
An apple represents the fleeting fads of the present
Fresh today, stale tomorrow
Representing our Tradition, the honey is meant
as it is timeless, stable and constant
Together they make the perfect balance
In our lives we see this for sure
Making choices real fast, relying on our rich past
Is surely the doctor’s best clue!

Pomegranate (second night)
Squish, crunch!
It’s the Pomegranate munch!
As you chew your seeds, you may want to start counting
‘cause believe it or not, 613 the pomegranate is touting!
As hard as it is to count - and kids have tried
The seeds tell us something to make us real proud
Our sages assure us we have done throughout the year
As many good deeds as there are seeds in here!
(hold up pomegranate
And if you don’t think so…well, now’s a good time as any
for your own New Year’s resolutions a-plenty!!
Shana Tova!

New Fruit (second night)
It’s that time of year
When Rosh Hashana is here
That we say the famous Shehecheyanu
To thank G-d for a year a-new
This blessing we say
On all our holidays
Showing G-d we are grateful to be celebrating
And no, we are not faking!
So a new fruit we pull out
Exotic as can be
Hopefully one we have not had
Too recently
So enjoy the spread
Share the plate around
The blessing we’ll say together
Under the plate it can be found!
Shehecheyanu

Blessed are you, Lord, our God, sovereign of the universe

who creates the fruit of the tree. (Amen)
Take a bite from the apple dipped in honey, then continue with the following:

May it be Your will, Lord our God and God of our ancestors
